Why We Exist

Reviving India's Heritage Craft

Arivaa crafts its goods the traditional way, reviving India's nearly forgotten heritage crafts. Every piece is lovingly handcrafted in our workshop in India, where master artisans breathe new life into rare, time-honoured techniques that were on the verge of being lost forever.

We deliberately choose these slow and authentic methods because only they can create objects of genuine beauty, soul, and enduring quality. These are pieces we are truly proud to call our own.

When you hold an Arivaa piece, you hold centuries of accumulated craft knowledge and a direct connection to the hands that shaped it.

The People Behind Every Piece

Master Artisans

Our workshop is home to craftspeople whose families have worked leather for generations. Their hands carry knowledge that no machine can replicate: the precise tension of a saddle stitch, the feel of a hide ready for burnishing, the angle of a skiving blade.

Each artisan takes full ownership of the piece they make. This is not assembly-line work. From cutting to finishing, one pair of hands guides each wallet, purse, or bag from raw hide to finished treasure.

By choosing Arivaa, you directly support these artisans and help ensure their craft and their livelihood survives.

What We Use

Materials Chosen with Integrity

We source only the finest full-grain, vegetable-tanned leathers: the most durable, most beautiful, and most honest material available. Unlike chrome-tanned leather, vegetable tanning uses natural tannins and takes weeks, not hours. The result is a hide that ages magnificently, developing a rich patina unique to its owner.

Full-Grain Leather

The strongest layer of the hide, with all its natural grain intact. Our leathers are chosen for character, not perfect uniformity. Every marking tells a story.

Vegetable-Tanned

Slowly tanned using plant-based tannins in the traditional Indian way. Firmer than chrome-tanned leather, it softens and darkens beautifully with age and use.

Natural Thread

Linen or waxed polyester thread, hand-rolled and tension-set by our artisans. The saddle stitch means if one loop breaks, the rest hold, and your stitching lasts decades.

The Process

How Every Piece Is Made

01

Selection

Our artisans personally inspect every hide, feeling for evenness and character. Only those that meet our standards are accepted.

02

Pattern & Cut

Templates drawn from ancestral designs are laid on the hide to honour the leather's grain. Each piece is hand-cut with a sharp skiving knife.

03

Assembly & Stitch

Parts are aligned, glued with natural adhesive, then hand-stitched using the double-needle saddle stitch, a technique unchanged for centuries.

04

Edge Work & Finish

Edges are bevelled, sanded and hand-burnished with bone folders and natural wax. The finished piece is conditioned and inspected before it leaves our workshop.
